Delhi University Publishes CUET Intake, Hiring Data to Counter Rahul Gandhi’s Caste-Bias Allegation

The university says most admissions are decided by test scores as it seeks to rebut the claim that interviews are used to exclude candidates by caste.

Overview

  • Posting on X, DU reiterated that interviews are not part of the standard process for most undergraduate and postgraduate admissions, which it says are based primarily on CUET scores.
  • To support its stance, DU released 2025–26 enrollment figures: 70,395 undergraduate students and 10,422 postgraduate students admitted via CUET across UR, OBC, SC, ST and EWS categories.
  • Recruitment data shared for 2021 to March 15, 2025 shows 5,056 appointments across categories, including UR 2,123, OBC 1,282, SC 717, ST 349, EWS 422 and PwD 163.
  • The university urged the Leader of the Opposition to verify facts and said such remarks create a non-conducive environment on campus.
  • Rahul Gandhi made the allegation at a Lucknow event, while INTEC and some DU faculty continue to cite departmental records where reserved-category applicants were declared “not found suitable” after interviews in certain hiring exercises.
