Delhi to Build 300 Police Booths at Flyovers, Subways and Foot Overbridges

Overview

• The Delhi government approved a plan for about 300 police booths across key pedestrian infrastructure, with the Public Works Department set to build them and hand them to Delhi Police.
• Agencies are mapping sites for a phased rollout focused on areas near the AIIMS flyover, Dhaula Kuan, ITO, Ring Road and Lajpat Nagar, plus underpasses along Bhairon Marg, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and near Andrews Ganj.
• Preliminary plans outline 100 booths under flyovers, about 70 inside subways and roughly 130 near foot overbridge landings, with construction estimated at ₹10–15 crore.
• Officials say the posts will deter harassment and vandalism, encourage subway use for women and other pedestrians, and protect items that are often stolen or damaged, including lights, safety barriers and granite bollards.
• PWD is also considering shops inside subways to raise footfall, while a separate CSR program invites companies to maintain and improve spaces beneath six flyovers.
