Overview
- Following weekend review meetings with the lieutenant governor, Delhi officials agreed to a coordinated plan that combines new buses, policing and technology to shield women commuters.
- The Delhi Transport Corporation intends to deploy 50 women-only buses — 25 Ladies Special and 25 U-Specials for students — once additional vehicles arrive under the PM e-Drive scheme.
- The lieutenant governor has ordered feasibility work to expand services starting at 4am on selected corridors to serve students, shift workers and early travellers.
- Delhi Police will provide female officers to ride identified Ladies Special routes, with women Home Guard marshals to assist and deter harassment at boarding, on board and while disembarking.
- Tech and institutions are being strengthened: panic buttons on DTC buses will be linked to the 112 emergency system, Saheli Pink Card usage is being analysed to pick vulnerable corridors, and the first women-only police station at Subzi Mandi has opened with more planned.
