Overview
- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the National Dairy Development Board signed the MoU on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to set up Compressed Bio‑Gas (CBG) plants.
- The agreement names Nangli, Ghoga‑Goyla and Ghazipur as processing sites and includes a payment of Rs 1 per kilogram of dung to livestock owners as feedstock incentive.
- Amit Shah pledged that by December 2028 not a single litre of dirty water will enter the Yamuna and officials said work has begun on about 80 sewage and industrial treatment plants to support the goal.
- CBG plants will use anaerobic digestion to turn dung into a purified, compressed gas that can substitute for CNG in vehicles while the leftover slurry and manure are marketed as organic fertiliser.
- Practical delivery depends on building and operating the named plants, diverting waste from drains, coordinating municipal and central agencies and ensuring the Rs 1/kg payment and other logistics reach roughly 1.25 lakh cattle owners.
