Delhi Rolls Out Summer Water Plan With Tanker Tracking as CM Assures No Fuel Shortage

Officials say the city must meet roughly 1,250 MGD demand against about 1,000 MGD supply this summer.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level review and directed agencies to prevent seasonal shortages using constituency and colony schedules for piped supply and tankers.
  • Officials pegged demand near 1,250 MGD versus roughly 1,000 MGD supply, with instructions to operate water treatment plants at maximum output.
  • The Delhi Jal Board has 168 departmental and 819 hired tankers in service, with about 200 more to be hired if needed, all tracked via a driver app using GPS and delivery photos that residents can view.
  • Water quality checks cover about 1,600–1,700 samples daily, with sampling vehicles increasing from 12 to 18 and complaints routed to the 24/7 DJB call centre at 1916 or toll-free 1800117118.
  • The government said LPG, petrol, diesel and PNG supplies remain normal and warned of action against black marketing to deter panic buying.
