Overview
- The Delhi government reconstituted a five-member Kanwar Committee and named Culture and Law Minister Kapil Mishra its chair on Saturday, May 30, 2026, to lead seasonal preparations.
- The committee includes MLAs Ajay Mahawar, Anil Sharma, Karnail Singh, Sanjay Goel and Umang Bajaj and will hold review meetings with district magistrates and agencies such as Delhi Police, PWD and the Health Department.
- Officials say the panel will prioritise route management, quality waterproof tents, 24-hour power and water supply, medical facilities and security to manage large flows of pilgrims during Shravan.
- Delhi reaffirmed support measures for registered camps that include direct benefit transfers ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹11 lakh, up to 1,200 units of free electricity per camp and a 75% concession on temporary power connection security deposits.
- The move builds on administrative changes that expanded registered camps from 170 in 2024 to 374 in 2025 and replaced tender-based support with direct transfers to improve transparency and scale logistical support for devotees.
