Overview
- Delhi’s Public Works Department is switching drain remodelling on straight roads to factory-made precast RCC boxes, replacing the slower cast-in-situ method.
- Officials say the precast units install quickly, have an expected life of about 50 years, improve stormwater flow, and keep raw materials off roads to cut traffic and dust.
- Curved sections will still use cast-in-situ pours because standard precast shapes do not bend, which allows crews to keep work moving without custom parts.
- Work has begun in Shalimar Bagh and on key stretches such as Gyan Shakti Mandir Marg, Chhoturam Marg, the Azadpur–Camp Chowk corridor, Sultanpuri, Rohini, Nangloi Road, and Maharaja Agrasen Marg.
- Under the Drainage Master Plan 2025, the PWD has issued 20 tenders for this push, while a parallel drive has cleared 14 lakh metric tonnes of silt by March-end toward a 28 lakh-tonne pre-monsoon target.
