Delhi PWD Clears Rs 177-Crore Drain Upgrade for North, North-West Hotspots

The approval marks an early rollout of the 2025 Drainage Master Plan using precast RCC drains for faster, more durable upgrades.

Overview

  • The package targets waterlogging-prone stretches including Gyan Shakti Mandir Marg, Chhoturam Marg, the Camp Chowk–Azadpur H-Point corridor on Mall Road, Sultanpuri, Rohini, Nangloi Road and Maharaja Agrasen Marg.
  • Project-wise estimates include Rs 46.45 crore for the Camp Chowk–Azadpur H-Point stretch and Rs 24.50 crore for Sultanpuri–Nangloi Road, alongside multiple smaller allocations that sum to about Rs 177 crore.
  • PWD will use factory-made precast RCC drain sections to accelerate installation, boost flow capacity and improve durability over traditional brick masonry systems.
  • Officials say execution will proceed in phases with close monitoring, with the upgrades expected to improve stormwater flow and reduce flood risk in densely populated areas once completed.
  • Officials also cite broader plan goals to remodel 300 km of drains next year within a five-year programme estimated at Rs 57,362 crore, with tenders already floated for Azadpur, Mehrauli–Badarpur Road, Nangloi and Khanjawala.
