Overview
- The Delhi government, which outlined the proposals Monday in an official statement, is considering moving from a 90:10 cost share to 100% funding for eligible park projects, with the plan still under consideration.
- Annual maintenance assistance would rise from ₹2.55 lakh to ₹3.8 lakh per acre to cover higher labour and upkeep costs, according to officials.
- One-time support would increase to ₹2.9 lakh per acre for developing new parks, while upgrades to existing parks could receive up to ₹2.5 lakh per acre for items such as display boards, dustbins and irrigation pipelines.
- Funds would continue to flow through the Delhi Parks and Gardens Society to Resident Welfare Associations, NGOs and registered societies that manage neighbourhood green spaces.
- Officials say the goal is cleaner, better irrigated parks that expand green cover in dense or newly developed colonies and improve local air, shade and quality of life.
