Delhi Police Solve Yamuna Khadar Murder, Arrest Three Suspects

They end a six-week multi-state manhunt, supplying police with forensic and digital leads needed to press murder charges.

Overview

  • Delhi Police and the ATS arrested Tarun (alias Tanni), Dheeraj and Sunny Mahajan in early July and said the three are in custody as the case is treated as solved.
  • Investigators identified the mutilated victim as 34-year-old Chandan Saini using tattoos and other distinguishing marks after his body was found on May 21 in the Yamuna Khadar floodplain.
  • Police say Tarun planned the killing to avenge an older attack on his brother, Tarun has reportedly confessed, and officers recovered the autorickshaw said to have been used to lure and transport the victim.
  • The probe pieced together CCTV footage, call-detail records and local inquiries and found the suspects evaded arrest for about six weeks by moving through Maharashtra, Punjab, Jammu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
  • Next steps include formal charges, forensic confirmations and court remand hearings, with police noting that both the victim and some accused had prior cases that shaped local inquiries.
