Overview
- A raid in Rohini on Monday recovered a 25-day-old infant and led to the arrest of Garima Jain and her father-in-law Satish Jain for allegedly buying the baby for ₹8 lakh.
- The latest recovery raises the total to six infants rescued and 13 people arrested as part of a probe that has to date mapped transactions stretching back roughly 18 months to two years.
- Investigators say suppliers recruited newborns from low-income and tribal families in Rajasthan and Gujarat, reportedly paying as little as ₹10,000–₹2 lakh before reselling the babies for ₹6–10 lakh to childless couples.
- Police allege the syndicate used Hira’s Multi Speciality Hospital and other private facilities to prepare forged birth and medical records, and they arrested an alleged key supplier, Saybabhai Ghamar alias Kalia, on June 17.
- Raids and record checks are continuing across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh while Child Welfare Committees and child-care homes care for recovered infants and police work to trace biological parents and build criminal cases.
