Overview
- The Delhi Police filed a 973-page chargesheet naming former domestic help Rahul Meena and a Delhi court on July 18 took cognisance of the filing and ordered video evidence preserved.
- Police say the chargesheet compiles DNA matches, fingerprints and palm prints, crime-scene reconstruction videos, CCTV analysis and layered voice and behavioural assessments to link the accused to the crime.
- Investigators allege Meena entered the Kailash Hills home using knowledge of a spare key, sexually assaulted and strangled the 22–23-year-old victim with a mobile charging cable, then ransacked the house and fled.
- CCTV traces and eyewitness accounts led to Meena’s arrest the same day from a hotel in Dwarka and police say stolen cash and valuables were recovered at his instance, though reports disagree on the exact amount taken.
- The court listed the matter for document scrutiny in early August and the strength of the prosecution’s science-based case could shape how quickly the trial moves forward and how evidence is handled for defence review.
