Delhi Police Dismantles Export Drug Syndicate After Mundra Port Raid, Seizes 18 Lakh Tablets

Officials say the UK-bound consignment hidden in household boxes exposes traffickers’ use of export channels.

Overview

  • Crime Branch officials report seizing 18,47,400 Alprazolam, Tramadol, Zolpidem and Nitrazepam tablets weighing about 528.4 kg, valuing the haul at roughly ₹8–9 crore, with five arrests and one associate being pursued as a proclaimed offender.
  • Customs and Delhi Police coordinated to have the UK shipment returned and conducted a joint seizure at Mundra Port on February 16 in the presence of a Drugs Inspector, a forensic team and a Customs SIT.
  • The investigation began on October 7, 2025, with the arrest of Mohd Abid and recovery of 54,000 Tramadol tablets, leading to the arrests of Customs House Agent Javed Khan, logistics owner Sunil Kumar, exporter Vishnu Dutt Sharma and courier operator Vikash Singh.
  • Recent actions elsewhere included Mumbai Airport Customs recovering 23.59 kg of hydroponic weed from Bangkok passengers, Chhattisgarh police seizing about 900 kg of cannabis in Kabirdham, and arrests tied to MDMA in Mysuru and heroin–opium trafficking in Navi Mumbai.
  • States outlined tougher measures and results, with Maharashtra bringing narcotics cases under MCOCA and warning courier liability, while Gujarat told its Assembly that about 41,000 kg of drugs worth ₹3,727 crore were seized over two years.
