Delhi Police Arrest Three in 'Thak-Thak' Theft Crackdown, Link Suspects to 20 Cases

Police say the habitual thieves targeted drivers by tapping on windows to distract them.

Overview

  • South District’s Anti-Auto Theft Squad detained Rehmat Ali, also known as Sibbu, and Hemant, also known as Ballu or Kallu, and recovered 11 stolen phones, a passport, a bag, and the scooty used in the thefts.
  • Investigators said those two arrests helped solve 16 theft cases registered across Sangam Vihar, Mehrauli, Malviya Nagar, Saket, Hauz Khas and other areas.
  • In a separate South‑West District case, police arrested Kunal, 24, and recovered gold and diamond jewellery, Canadian dollars, Indian currency, a phone, a passport, a PR card, and the scooty linked to the crime.
  • Officers said Kunal’s arrest cleared four Delhi Cantt cases, while all three suspects were described as repeat offenders with long records and recent releases from jail.
  • Police traced the group using CCTV checks, technical analysis, local intelligence and a targeted trap, and they continue to look for other members and more stolen property.
