Delhi Police Arrest Four in Canteen Owner’s Murder, Launch Manhunt for Fifth

Investigators traced the plot through CCTV, toll data, call records after the victim’s remains were found in the Yamuna.

  • Police identified the victim as Anroop Gupta, 48, who ran the Chhattisgarh Sadan canteen in Dwarka.
  • Officers say prime accused Happy alias Suraj lured Gupta to a rented flat in Matiala Extension on February 18, where he was tied up, assaulted and fatally stabbed after refusing to pay.
  • The group allegedly stole Gupta’s gold jewellery, dismembered the body with a machete, packed the remains in three plastic bags, and used his SUV to dispose of them near Vrindavan on the night of February 19–20.
  • CCTV from the building and toll plazas, NHAI FASTag data, call detail records and a Rapido rider’s account helped reconstruct movements, leading to recovery of body parts on February 28.
  • Delhi Police arrested Happy/Suraj, Bhupender, Balram and Rakhi, reported confessions during interrogation, and named Neeraj as absconding, with the case registered at Bindapur and coordination with Uttar Pradesh police ongoing.
