Delhi Police Arrest Cousin in Killing of 6-Year-Old Found in Ranhola

Police say he confessed, citing a grudge against the boy’s mother.

Overview

  • The child was discovered on Thursday with his throat slit inside an under-construction building in west Delhi’s Ranhola, police said.
  • CCTV footage and local inquiries placed the boy with Ravi Kumar on Tuesday afternoon, leading investigators to detain and arrest him.
  • Police said Kumar admitted to strangling the child and slitting his throat to “teach a lesson” to his maternal aunt, the boy’s mother.
  • The knife was recovered at his instance and a murder case was registered after a post-mortem at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
  • The mother, earlier suspected by relatives, was traced to Chhapra in Bihar for questioning as forensic and evidentiary work continues.
