Delhi Police Arrest 482 in 48-Hour Multi-State Crackdown on Crime Networks

Police say the sweep disrupted a cross-border recruitment module tied to Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti.

  • The 48-hour sweep, which ran from Tuesday morning to Thursday morning, spanned Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh with raids at 1,014 locations.
  • Police reported 482 arrests and said the sweep targeted modules of gangs active around Delhi, including Kapil Sangwan, Sandeep Kala Jathedi, Saddam Gauri, Hashim Baba, Tillu and Kaushal Chaudhary.
  • Seizures included 141 pistols, 212 cartridges, 79 knives, 24 vehicles, Rs 19 lakh in cash, 19 kilograms of narcotics and 1,234 small liquor bottles.
  • Investigators arrested nine suspects they link to the Shahzad Bhatti network, which they allege recruited online and tasked shooters to fire at security personnel.
  • Police said they arrested five accused contract killers and claimed planned attacks on police and other security targets were averted.
