Delhi Pledges 18-Month Fix for Flooded Sharma Enclave as Dumping Worsens Drainage

Officials set an 18-month timeline to drain Kirari’s flooded colonies.

Overview

  • Delhi’s water minister announced sewage lines will be laid within six months and said the area should be free of waterlogging in a year and a half.
  • Plans include diverting household sewage to a 25 MGD treatment plant in Rohini via three new pumping stations in Bhagya Vihar, Prem Nagar and Pratap Vihar.
  • The Irrigation and Flood Control department will build a 4.5 km trunk drain costing Rs 220 crore, with tenders in process and a similar 18-month completion target.
  • A 7.2 km DDA drain from Kirari to Rithala is slated for completion soon, a PWD drain on Rohtak Road is nearing completion, and a Rs 9.4 crore local outfall project is planned for Sharma Enclave.
  • Residents report months of sewage-filled flooding, displacement and shuttered shops, while journalists observed MCD trucks dumping waste on adjacent DDA land that locals say is blocking drainage.
