Overview
- The Delhi Development Authority carried out a coordinated single-day plantation on Friday that placed more than 100,000 native trees and shrubs at 77 sites across the city.
- Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu led the Kamla Nehru Ridge event, planted saplings with students and residents, and reviewed hydrological restoration works at the Serpentine Lake and Butterfly Conservatory.
- Planting prioritized indigenous, climate-resilient species such as Peepal, Neem, Jamun, Arjun, Shisham, Dhok and Amaltas chosen to match site-specific plantation plans and support local biodiversity.
- The drive is part of the national 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' 70-lakh campaign launched on July 7 and advances the DDA’s seasonal commitment toward 23 lakh saplings in Delhi and a ridge-area target of 181,700.
- Officials will now focus on post-planting survival with a nodal-officer system, regular drives and youth-driven community care intended to convert one-day planting numbers into long-term urban-forest restoration and cooler, cleaner neighbourhoods.
