Overview
- Delhi’s Transport Department issued a notice making immediate impoundment and scrapping mandatory for End-of-Life Vehicles found on roads or in public parking without further notice.
- End-of-Life classification covers diesel vehicles older than 10 years, petrol vehicles older than 15 years, and models meeting BS-III or lower emission norms.
- Owners have been advised to obtain a No Objection Certificate to transfer qualifying vehicles outside the National Capital Region to avoid scrapping in Delhi.
- A new enforcement push is planned after the Supreme Court clarified in December that action may proceed against vehicles below BS-IV norms.
- Seized vehicles will be dispatched to Delhi’s authorised Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility operated by EZWaste Recycling in the Mohan Cooperative Industrial Estate.
