Delhi Orders End-of-Life Vehicles Seized and Scrapped if Parked or Plying

Officials announced a fresh drive to enforce air-quality rules targeting diesel over 10 years, petrol over 15 years, BS-III vehicles.

Overview

  • Delhi’s Transport Department issued a notice making immediate impoundment and scrapping mandatory for End-of-Life Vehicles found on roads or in public parking without further notice.
  • End-of-Life classification covers diesel vehicles older than 10 years, petrol vehicles older than 15 years, and models meeting BS-III or lower emission norms.
  • Owners have been advised to obtain a No Objection Certificate to transfer qualifying vehicles outside the National Capital Region to avoid scrapping in Delhi.
  • A new enforcement push is planned after the Supreme Court clarified in December that action may proceed against vehicles below BS-IV norms.
  • Seized vehicles will be dispatched to Delhi’s authorised Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility operated by EZWaste Recycling in the Mohan Cooperative Industrial Estate.
