Delhi Metro Sets 2025 Ridership Record as Driverless Network Nears 120 Km

Delhi accounts for over half of India’s daily metro trips.

Overview

  • DMRC reported 2.358 billion passenger journeys in 2025, averaging 6.46 million per day, up from 2.2835 billion in 2024.
  • Two sections opened on March 8: 12.3 km on the Pink Line (Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur) and 9.9 km on the Magenta Line (Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park).
  • Driverless operations now cover nearly 120 km across the Pink and Magenta corridors, with about 80 trains running on these UTO lines.
  • Single-day ridership records reached 7.867 million on November 18, 2024, and 8.187 million on August 8, 2025, according to DMRC.
  • Phase-IV construction is underway with 52 new trains being procured, 18 delivered so far, as current operations field 343 trains making about 4,508 trips daily with punctuality near 99.9%.
