Overview
- DMRC, which announced the latest phase Sunday, said Managing Director Vikas Kumar inspected the first refurbished train before it returned to passenger service.
- The mid-life programme covers 70 trains on the Red and Blue Lines, with 31 completed so far, including 12 in phase one and 18 in phase two.
- DMRC plans to refurbish 22 more Blue Line trains by November 2027 as a key milestone in the third phase.
- Upgrades add IP-based announcement and information systems, CCTV, and LCD dynamic route maps that show real-time stops and times and enable emergency contact with the operator.
- Safety and comfort improvements include fire detection with smoke and heat sensors in all coaches, replacement of older relays and circuit breakers, and mobile and laptop charging points, with work done one train at a time to keep service running.
