Delhi Man Arrested for Using AI to Create and Publish More Than 100 Morphed Nude Images

Police say the suspect used free “remove clothes” AI tools on Instagram photos to generate morphed nude images that he posted from multiple fake accounts, highlighting gaps in platform takedown and online safety.

Overview

  • Ahmedabad City Cyber Crime Branch traced and arrested 27-year-old Sumit Nemchand Sharma in Delhi, and officials said the arrest took place on Wednesday after a cross-jurisdictional probe.
  • Investigators recovered more than 100 AI-morphed photos and videos of an Ahmedabad woman and her mother and identified about eight to ten fake social media accounts used to publish the material.
  • Police say the accused downloaded photos from the complainant’s Instagram, searched for ‘AI Remove Clothes’ tools online, used free AI websites to produce the explicit content, and posted it across Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and X.
  • An FIR has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, forensic examination of the suspect’s devices is ongoing, and the cyber unit has issued safety advisories under Mission Cyber Rakshika.
  • The case illustrates how widely available generative-AI tools lower the barrier to large-scale digital sexual harassment and points to familiar challenges for investigators and platforms in attribution, evidence preservation and timely takedown.
