Delhi Launches Munak Canal Revamp With Rs 5,000-Crore Elevated Road Plan

The project links religious-site renewal with transport upgrades to ease travel toward Rohini and Outer Delhi.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on January 22 laid the foundation for an integrated rejuvenation of the long-neglected Munak Canal.
  • Plans include comprehensive cleaning, dedicated Chhath Puja ghats with concrete steps on both banks, landscaped parks, seating, lighting, and organized boundary walls.
  • A Rs 5,000-crore elevated corridor is planned from Inderlok Metro to UER-2 to give commuters a faster alternative to congested internal roads.
  • Traffic measures also feature new service roads with solar lighting, widening of the Singalpur Bridge, a new two-lane bridge nearby, and a surface road along the canal.
  • The government projects roughly 30,000 daily visitors after completion and targets readiness for the next Chhath Puja.
