Overview
- Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu launched the campaign at District Park in Paschim Vihar on Saturday in the presence of MLA Karnail Singh and DDA vice-chairman N. Saravana Kumar.
- Phase I covers immediate work at 101 sites across about 155 hectares with desilting, dredging, excavation and clearing natural rainwater channels, with a target completion date of August 30, 2026.
- DDA, which manages 822 water bodies and has identified 424 for revival, finalized the Phase I list after a fresh review this month added 24 locations.
- The sites include 22 in Dwarka, 17 in Rohini, 13 in South and six in Narela, with notable ponds at Paschim Vihar (1.47 hectares), Jharoda Kalan, Maidan Garhi, Smriti Van and Astha Kunj.
- Phase II, targeted for May 2027, will add fencing, stronger embankments, tree planting and sewage treatment units where feasible, in what officials call an ecological restoration effort rather than a beautification push.
