Delhi Launches Disaster-Ready Schools Campaign as Phase One Begins in 2,082 Campuses

Authorities will audit all 5,500 campuses next as part of an NDMA–DDMA programme aligned with the 'Zero Casualty' vision.

Overview

  • The drive was inaugurated at Springdales School, Pusa Road, by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, with Education Minister Ashish Sood attending.
  • Phase one spans six education districts, with two-day training sessions and mock drills underway for nearly 16.5 lakh students and 60,000 teachers.
  • Every school will prepare a Disaster Management Plan, run regular drills, map hazards, install evacuation signage, and set up School Disaster Management Committees.
  • Officials said safety audits will cover all 5,500 schools before the programme scales to roughly 3,500 remaining institutions in subsequent phases.
  • Citing Delhi’s Seismic Zone-IV risk and a February 2025 quake, leaders framed students as preparedness ambassadors in a model intended to strengthen resilience nationwide.
