Delhi High Court Denies Vinesh Phogat Interim Entry to Asian Games Trials

The judge set a July 6 deadline for the wrestling federation to decide her show-cause case.

Overview

  • The Delhi High Court, which ruled Monday, refused to let Vinesh Phogat join the May 30–31 Asian Games trials without first hearing the Wrestling Federation of India’s side.
  • The court allowed Phogat to file a full reply to the 15-page show-cause notice and told the federation to finish the proceedings and place its decision before the court by July 6.
  • The federation says Phogat is ineligible until June 26 under anti-doping return rules that require six months in the testing pool for athletes coming out of retirement.
  • Separate WFI rules issued on February 25 and a May 6 circular restrict trial spots to medalists from select 2025–26 national events and say past performance will not be considered, which shuts Phogat out of the trials window.
  • Phogat was barred from the Gonda ranking event after a May 9 notice that cites indiscipline and anti-doping breaches, she points to an ITA email saying she could compete from January 1, 2026, and active women wrestlers have asked the court to block any special entry for her.
