Delhi HC Lets MP Engineer Rashid Visit Ailing Father at AIIMS Under Guard Until May 10

The court offered narrow humanitarian relief that keeps strict custody in a long-running terror-funding prosecution.

Overview

  • The Delhi High Court, which modified the interim-bail terms Tuesday, cleared daily 8 am to 8 pm visits to AIIMS through May 10.
  • He must return to Tihar Jail each evening, with at least two plainclothes police officers posted outside his father’s ward during each visit.
  • NIA urged tighter control, including custody parole and no phone access, yet the bench rejected that and limited phone use to the hospital hours.
  • Judges refused to let him stay at his MP flat and declined to verify a rented address, so they ordered supervised daily release from jail.
  • Rashid, a Baramulla MP held since 2019 in an NIA terror-funding case under the UAPA and IPC, sought the change after a week-long Srinagar-only bail granted April 28.
