Delhi Expands Ayushman Bharat to Cover Widows, Persons With Disabilities and Their Families

The move taps Delhi's existing PM-JAY network to widen cashless care for vulnerable households.

Overview

  • The Delhi Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved inclusion of roughly 3.97 lakh widows and 1.31 lakh Divyang beneficiaries in PM-JAY.
  • Families of these beneficiaries also become eligible, taking the projected addition to about 5.5 lakh households.
  • Officials said about 5.5 lakh families already receive Ayushman Bharat benefits in Delhi, with a similar number slated to be added through this decision.
  • The expansion is in addition to existing eligibility for AAY and Priority Household categories, senior citizens above 70, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers and helpers.
  • Delhi cites operational capacity with 7,23,707 Ayushman cards issued, 208 empanelled hospitals (156 private, 53 government), and more than 29,120 treatments delivered to date.
