Overview
- CRISIL says the draft, now open for public comment until May 10, could add about 600,000 electric two-wheelers to national sales and lift market share to 21–23% by FY2029.
- Under the proposal, only electric two-wheelers would be eligible for new registration in Delhi starting April 1, 2028.
- Delivery and two-wheeler taxi fleets would be required to switch to electric from January 1, 2027, using a tapering purchase subsidy that nudges early buyers.
- The plan waives road tax on EVs through 2030 and offers a ₹10,000 incentive for scrapping an older bike before buying an electric model.
- Ola Electric’s Bhavish Aggarwal praised the draft as the beginning of the end for petrol vehicles and said the company will add more stores and service centers in Delhi.
