Overview
- Bhagat, arrested Sunday in Purnia by the Crime Branch’s NDR unit after a tip-off, had evaded police since 2020 and was declared a proclaimed offender in December 2025.
- Police say he led a Dwarka attack on March 17, 2020 in which event manager Surinder Nanda was lured to a meeting, beaten with sticks, robbed of a diamond ring and Rs 27,000, and had both thumbs cut off.
- Officers report the assailants forced Nanda to sign papers for an alleged Rs 11 lakh vegetable payment, and the case was registered on March 18 at Dwarka Sector-23 after he reached DDU Hospital.
- Investigators say they used technical surveillance and local intelligence to trace the suspect to Bihar, and during questioning he allegedly confessed and said he kept changing locations.
- The case lists charges of wrongful confinement, robbery, criminal intimidation and use of deadly weapons under the Indian Penal Code, and three co-accused were arrested earlier by local police.
