Delhi Court Orders Senior Police Probe Into Missing IGI Airport Community Dogs

The order signals closer scrutiny of alleged forcible relocations at the airport.

Overview

  • Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pranav Joshi directed the Delhi Police Joint Commissioner for the Transport Range on April 29 to lead a fresh investigation into two community dogs missing from Indira Gandhi International Airport.
  • The court said earlier police work was inadequate, noting no serious effort to find the dogs or to learn why they were moved, and it faulted the investigator for questioning complainants instead of possible offenders.
  • Videos shared on social media and CCTV clips show a dog being captured and lured into a vehicle at Terminal 1, suggesting ground staff involvement, yet the inquiry has not established who ordered the action.
  • The dogs, Kaddu and Brownie, have been untraceable for more than a month after their alleged April 2 relocation from areas near Terminals 1 and 3, according to complainant and feeder Rashmi Sharma.
  • The judge noted police failed to collect basic vaccination, sterilisation and feeding records that the complainant later filed, did not name any DIAL officials they examined, and tried to treat terminal incidents as separate; police are due to report back on May 11 under senior oversight, which could clarify responsibility at the DIAL-run airport.
