Delhi Court Grants NIA 45-Day Extension in Red Fort Blast Probe, Extends Custody of Seven

Prosecutors said fresh digital and financial leads require additional time.

Overview

  • Principal District and Sessions Judge Pitambar Dutt at Patiala House Court approved 45 more days, short of the 90 days the NIA requested.
  • Judicial custody for seven accused was extended until March 13 in connection with the November 2025 car blast near the Red Fort.
  • The hearing was conducted in a closed courtroom, where Special Public Prosecutor Madhav Khurana pressed the case for more time and defense counsel opposed the delay.
  • The NIA says it is pursuing a wider conspiracy with central and state agencies and recently arrested Yasir Ahmad Dar as the ninth accused under UAPA and BNS, alleging he took an oath for self‑sacrificial operations.
  • Investigators also allege eighth accused Dr Bilal Naseer Malla sheltered the deceased perpetrator Umar Nabi and destroyed evidence as the probe follows digital and financial trails.
