Overview
- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will personally lead simultaneous cleanliness and awareness activities at multiple ghats along the Yamuna on June 14, the Chief Minister's Office announced.
- Officials say the campaign will involve nearly 500 social, religious, educational and voluntary organisations and thousands of volunteers drawn from across the capital.
- The Delhi government is coordinating with Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Health Department and other agencies to set up security, traffic control, drinking water, sanitation, first aid and emergency services for the event.
- Organisers frame the drive as an expansion of last year’s 'Meri Yamuna, Mera Kartavya' effort, which involved thousands of volunteers and collected more than 12 tonnes of waste that was scientifically disposed of.
- Authorities describe the June 14 operation as one of the largest citizen-led river cleanliness initiatives in recent years and say the key measure of success will be sustained public engagement and concrete follow-up on waste removal and river restoration.
