Delhi Cab Driver Arrested After Child Abduction, Alleged Rape and Murder

Pending forensic and medical reports will shape the prosecution.

Overview

  • Police say the 29-year-old driver spent about 45 minutes scouting a south Delhi footpath before allegedly forcing a sleeping 10-year-old into his car at around 4:15am on Monday and driving toward Mandi village and the Gurugram–Faridabad Road.
  • Officers traced and arrested the suspect in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri within six hours while he was dropping off a passenger, and the girl's body was recovered about 11 to 12 hours later after the accused led police to the site.
  • During a reconstruction at Mandi village, investigators say the accused tried to snatch an officer’s gun and was shot in the leg in a brief exchange with police.
  • Forensic teams recovered broken hair strands, clothing, a towel suspected to have been used to strangle the child, stones and vehicle traces and have sent samples to labs; a CFSL vehicle examination and postmortem and potency reports remain pending.
  • Police found prior criminal cases and multiple traffic challans linked to the accused in Bihar’s Khagaria district, have blocked his cab-aggregator ID, and have written to platforms seeking onboarding and background-verification records as investigators probe vetting gaps and interstate record-sharing.
