Delhi Approves Rs 1,668 Crore Dheerpur Campus for Ambedkar University

It is meant to relieve acute space constraints by building National Education Policy–aligned, student‑centric facilities while construction will follow Public Works Department timelines.

The Delhi government formally approved the Dheerpur campus on Tuesday with an estimated budget of Rs 1,668 crore after the Public Works Department revised an earlier Rs 1,199 crore estimate.
Audited architectural plans for Dheerpur and a separate Rohini site are complete and the university plans to begin work at Dheerpur first with an expected build time of about three years subject to PWD scheduling.
Vice Chancellor Anu Singh Lather said the new campus will feature technology-enabled teaching spaces, collaborative work areas and open discussion zones designed around National Education Policy principles.
The approval comes as Ambedkar University’s student body has risen from roughly 2,400 in 2019 to about 6,300 now and is projected near 7,000 this year, prompting interim capacity upgrades such as a new Karampura academic block.
Alongside the capital project, AUD is pushing academic reforms: experimental one-year postgraduate courses in seven disciplines, AI modules at multiple levels guided by external experts, and a doubling of PhD fellowships to boost research output.
