Overview
- Delhi’s chief minister said Sunday the city will adopt the Centre’s amended Motor Vehicles Rules to launch a fully digital, time-bound challan process, with the start date yet to be set.
- Violations captured by cameras will auto-generate e-challans delivered within three days, while physical notices will reach registered owners within 15 days.
- After a challan is issued, motorists have 45 days to pay or file an online grievance, and inaction means the challan is treated as accepted.
- If no action or a rejected grievance leaves the fine due, payment windows run 30 days and then a final 15 days, and a court appeal is allowed only after depositing 50% of the amount.
- Drivers with five or more violations in a year face licence suspension or disqualification, and continued non-payment can trigger daily reminders, blocks on vehicle services, a “not to be transacted” flag, and vehicle impounding subject to court orders.
