Overview
- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ programme on Friday as a seven-year, ₹8,300 crore project running from September 2026 to August 2033.
- The World Bank will fund 65% of the plan while the Delhi government will cover the remaining 35%, making it a major multilateral partnership for city air policy.
- A July 10 workshop will bring Delhi departments and senior World Bank officials together to finalise roles, implementation timelines and the project roadmap before roll-out.
- The project rests on two pillars: strengthening air-quality management through a dedicated Project Management Unit, upgraded monitoring, data analytics and an Integrated Command and Control Centre; and cutting emissions from transport, road dust, construction waste, industry and solid-waste burning.
- Success depends on cross-agency coordination and cooperation with neighbouring Indo‑Gangetic Plain states, and the plan builds on recent World Bank clean-air engagements in nearby states earlier this year.
