Delhi Airport Denies Abuse in Viral Dog Video as Activists Report Two Community Dogs Missing

The dispute has become a test of how airports balance passenger safety with India’s rules for community dogs.

Overview

  • Footage from April 2 shows a brown dog being tied and dragged at IGI’s Terminal 1, and activists say the dog, known as Dholu, has not been found while another long‑time airport dog, Kaddu, has been missing since March 26.
  • Delhi International Airport Limited says trained teams restrained the brown dog after it bit two passengers on March 30 and 31 and then returned it to the same area, and the operator cites more than 30 bite cases in three months.
  • Activists dispute those claims and allege untrained contractors used harsh methods to capture dogs, and they are demanding CCTV footage and shelter or Animal Birth Control records to verify the dogs’ whereabouts.
  • The airport says around 200 community dogs live across its terminals under a program run with civic bodies and NGOs, and it urges travelers not to feed dogs in public zones because it can trigger aggressive behavior when food is not available.
  • Political pressure rose on Thursday as BJP leader Vijay Goyal criticized the airport for feeding and releasing dogs after reported bite cases, and there remains no independent confirmation of where Dholu or Kaddu are now.
