Delhi Air Quality Falls Back to Poor as Mumbai Records Severe Pockets

Forecasts warn the wind-driven respite was brief, prompting an expansion of monitoring and enforcement.

Overview

  • Delhi’s AQI climbed to 267 on Tuesday morning, with very poor hotspots including Bawana at 333, Narela at 344, Wazirpur at 339, Rohini at 335 and Anand Vihar at 317, CPCB data show.
  • The capital’s air briefly improved to moderate on February 8 (189) before worsening to poor on February 9 (216) and further on February 10, with smog reported across several areas.
  • The Air Quality Early Warning System projects conditions to remain in the poor band through February 12 as winds weaken, with mist and relatively mild temperatures limiting dispersion.
  • Delhi launched six new CAAQMS stations and a 100-vehicle ‘Vayu Rakshak’ fleet to bolster real-time tracking and enforcement, taking the network to 46 sites with more planned after calibration.
  • Mumbai’s air remained unstable, improving to an overall AQI of 247 on Tuesday from 304 a day earlier, though several neighbourhoods stayed in the severe range, coinciding with haze and daytime highs near 33–35°C.
