DeepSeek Takes Stake in Unitree Ahead of Shanghai IPO

A stock-exchange filing shows the AI lab will invest in the robot maker and jointly develop humanoid AI to speed work on models that act in the physical world.

Overview

  • A stock-exchange filing reported on Aug. 6 shows DeepSeek bought 933,399 Unitree shares for 140.8 million yuan, equal to 2.31% of the strategic placement in Unitree’s Shanghai listing.
  • The filing records a formal joint-development deal in which DeepSeek and Unitree will build AI models for humanoid robots and give each other procurement preference for model services and robot purchases.
  • Unitree’s IPO process is still in progress with public reports citing different fundraising targets that range from about 4.2 billion yuan to 6.1 billion yuan and a projected post-listing valuation in the tens of billions of yuan.
  • The partnership targets a core technical gap: DeepSeek’s strengths are in language and reasoning models while Unitree can supply the physical robots and multimodal demonstration data that training embodied-AI systems require.
  • Separate pre-market activity has created an unofficial UNITREE crypto token that claims association with the company, but no official link has been disclosed and the token remains unverified.
