Overview
- Decca Broadway announced Tuesday that it will issue the first-ever vinyl pressing of the Spring Awakening original Broadway cast album on August 14, 2026, with pre-orders available now.
- The Twentieth Anniversary Edition was produced with creators Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik and was newly mastered for vinyl by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound to adapt the 2006 sessions for the format.
- The release includes two previously unreleased archival recordings—“All Begin to Call,” a 2000 workshop duet featuring a 14-year-old Lea Michele with Gavin Creel, and “As Shadows Do,” a cut number sung by Lauren Pritchard—that document the show’s early development.
- The deluxe package offers standard black and a limited red-and-black marbled pressing plus a 24-page booklet of rare photos, essays, complete lyrics and an all-new oral history with the original cast and creative team.
- The vinyl release reconnects to the show’s legacy—Spring Awakening won eight 2006 Tony Awards and the cast album won the 2008 Grammy—while giving fans and scholars archival evidence of performances recorded partly in Duncan Sheik’s home studio during the show’s move from Off-Broadway to Broadway.
