De Lille Hands Over R82 Million Agulhas Lighthouse Precinct Upgrade

The project is framed as a jobs driver under a national plan to grow tourism.

Overview

  • Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille launched and handed over the upgraded Agulhas Lighthouse Precinct on Tuesday at the southernmost tip of Africa.
  • The redevelopment adds a 60-seat restaurant, an interpretation centre, new visitor facilities and improved access infrastructure.

  • The Department of Tourism worked with SANParks, the forestry and environment department, contractors and community partners under the Tourism Growth Partnership Plan.
  • The handover follows record 2025 arrivals of 10.5 million visitors and fresh investment pledges, signaling a push to spread tourism benefits to regions like the Overberg.
