DC Unveils Three New Animated Series at Annecy

DC unveiled a creator-led slate expanding adult, anime and kids animation with platform homes and release dates unconfirmed.

Overview

  • The joint DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation presentation at the Annecy festival on Thursday, June 25, 2026, introduced Absolute Batman, Joker: Laugh Riot, and an untitled Krypto series.
  • Absolute Batman will be adapted as a full‑CG adult series with comic writer Scott Snyder as showrunner and Nick Dragotta as a producer and is based on the bestselling comic that has sold more than six million copies.
  • Joker: Laugh Riot is being produced in Japan with SOLA Entertainment, directed by Yasuhiro Aoki and executive produced by Jim Krieg, and the announced logline follows the Joker hunting Batman’s killer; reporting says this title is the closest to active production.
  • The untitled Krypto project is a kids’ series in early development with C. H. Greenblatt as executive producer and centers on Krypto tagging along with a gang of misfit wannabe crooks whose hearts he slowly redeems.
  • None of the three shows have confirmed network or streaming homes or release dates, and the announcements form part of a broader DC animation push that pairs high‑profile creators with global production partners.
