D.C. Police Reimpose Weekend Youth Curfew Zones in Navy Yard, Chinatown and U Street

The move follows violent teen gatherings near Navy Yard last weekend that led to arrests with gun recoveries.

Overview

  • The zones run from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday, barring groups of nine or more minors unless exempt or accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • MPD used the chief’s authority under the Juvenile Curfew Second Temporary Amendment Act of 2025 to establish the targeted areas.
  • The temporary curfew law remains in effect through April 15, 2026, with Councilmember Brooke Pinto saying there are not enough votes to extend it.
  • Navy Yard was reinstated after roughly 200 teens gathered there last weekend with assaults, at least two robberies, and two juvenile arrests with firearms recovered with help from the National Guard and Secret Service.
  • These targeted restrictions are in addition to the citywide juvenile curfew that runs nightly from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
