Overview
- MPD designated curfew zones in Navy Yard, Chinatown, the U Street Corridor and the Wharf, in effect 8–11 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
- Within these areas, people under 18 are barred from gathering in groups of nine or more, with exemptions for parents, work, school activities, emergencies and First Amendment activity; the citywide 11 p.m.–6 a.m. curfew remains in place.
- Police have deployed additional patrols across the four neighborhoods to enforce the weekend restrictions.
- Officials are using powers under the Juvenile Curfew Second Temporary Amendment Act of 2025, which is scheduled to expire April 15, and Councilmember Brooke Pinto says there are not enough votes to extend it.
- The move follows a March 14 Navy Yard gathering that escalated to assaults and robberies, with two juveniles arrested and two guns recovered after incidents involving National Guard and Secret Service assistance, and community reaction remains divided over safety and equity.
