Overview
- Police added the Wharf to previously announced curfew areas in Navy Yard, Chinatown and the U Street Corridor for March 20–22.
- From 8 to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday, people under 18 may not gather in groups of nine or more within the zones, with exemptions for a parent or guardian, work, school activities, emergencies and First Amendment activity.
- A separate citywide juvenile curfew remains in effect nightly from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- The expansion follows a March 14 Navy Yard gathering of about 200 teens with assaults and robberies, where two juveniles were arrested and two firearms were recovered with help from the National Guard and Secret Service.
- MPD invoked the Juvenile Curfew Second Temporary Amendment Act of 2025, which empowers the chief to set Extended Juvenile Curfew Zones until the law’s April 15 sunset.
