DB Extends Pegnitztal Rail Closure to September, Plans May Restart on Pegnitz–Neuhaus

Stabilization of deteriorated 19th‑century bridges is underway alongside formal applications for comprehensive renewals.

Overview

  • Deutsche Bahn now expects the Hersbruck–Pegnitz section to remain shut until the end of the summer holidays, taking the closure to roughly one year.
  • A partial reopening is slated for early May with trains returning on the Pegnitz–Neuhaus segment.
  • Hourly replacement buses continue to link Bayreuth and Nuremberg nonstop and to operate between Neuhaus and Hersbruck.
  • Specialist teams have begun joint renewal, masonry reinforcement with needles and anchors, crack sealing and injection, and void filling on multiple bridges.
  • DB Infrago is submitting plan approval applications to the Federal Railway Authority for full bridge renewals after current repairs, and it has not given specific reasons for the latest delay.
