Overview
- The attack occurred Tuesday morning as the couple left Broadway Market and was caught on surveillance video that shows a man approach from behind, knock both victims down, strike the woman and take the husband’s wallet.
- Police arrested 32-year-old Montray McCray and upgraded charges to include homicide alongside assault, robbery and reckless endangerment; he was taken into custody on South Carrollton Avenue and made an initial court appearance Friday.
- Charging documents say McCray caused a disturbance at Beans and Bread, sat in Vikki’s Fells Point Deli watching the couple, followed them outside and then attacked, and police reported the stolen wallet was missing $150.
- Court records and reporting show McCray has a decade-long arrest history including past gun and drug charges and is listed as a lifetime registered sex offender.
- Neighbors who circulated and identified surveillance images held a vigil for Claudia Bismark, 76, and have pressed local leaders for changes to probation and sentencing practices while friends say Wade Wilson has been released and is expected to recover.
