Daylight Saving Time Begins March 8 Across Most of the U.S.

Two House proposals to scrap the biannual clock change remain in committee.

Overview

  • Clocks will jump from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, March 8, 2026, with the return to standard time set for November 1.
  • Hawaii, most of Arizona, and U.S. territories including Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands do not change clocks; the Navajo Nation in Arizona does observe DST.
  • Most smartphones, computers and smartwatches will update automatically, while many kitchen appliances, wall clocks and older car dashboards must be reset by hand.
  • H.R. 300, introduced in January 2025 to let states adopt permanent daylight saving time, remains in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and H.R. 7378 filed on February 4, 2026 would permanently shift U.S. time forward by 30 minutes to end seasonal changes.
  • In Europe, Spain will move clocks forward on March 29 under the EU schedule as its request to end biannual changes awaits a broader EU decision.
